What Is A Yoni Steam?
A Yoni steam consists of steaming the outer vaginal tissues using a blend of herbs that supports female reproductive health. The process is gentle, relaxing, and only takes 20-30 minutes to complete.
What Does Yoni Mean?
Yoni is a Sanskrit word for womb, vagina, vulva, and Shakti. It refers to the divine feminine aspect of the universal life force.
How To Do A Yoni Steam
First, the Yoni steam herbal blend is placed into a heat-safe bowl.
Next, freshly boiled water is poured over their herbs to gently release their volatile oils (therapeutic portion).
As you sit comfortably above the bowl (no less than 6 inches above), the warm steam rises opens the pores, and delivers the therapeutic benefits of the herbs to the outer vaginal tissues.
If steam is too hot, you’re too close and must lower the bowl immediately.
Finally, drape a wool blanket over your shoulders and enclose your body to enhance the detoxification benefits of the Yoni steam.
Keeping the steam from escaping will slightly increase your body temperature, stimulate perspiration, and aide in the release of toxins through your pores.
The herbs are for a single use, and should be discarded after use.
How Long Should A Yoni Steam Last?
An entire session usually lasts 20-30 minutes.
After each Yoni steam session, the herbs and water should be discarded.
What Are The Ingredients & Benefits Of A Yoni Steam?
Traditionally yoni steaming has been practiced by women in various cultures throughout the world to address issues affecting female reproductive health.
Some of the issues addressed by Yoni steaming are:
Heavy periods, missed periods, irregular periods, PMS, fertility issues, PCOS, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, uterine prolapse, and torn or scarred vaginal tissues from childbirth.
The herbs selected for a Yoni steam may vary based on the creator of the blend.
The effect of the herbs is usually decreasing inflammation, toning the uterus, and stimulating circulation to bring more nutrients and oxygen-rich blood to the reproductive organs.
This helps with the natural release of toxins, and promotes hormonal balance.
How Often Should I Use A Yoni Steam?
A Yoni steam is usually done 1-2 times per month depending on individual preferences.
How Can I Use A Yoni Steam In My Spiritual Practice?
The stillness that a 20-30 minute Yoni steam requires is a great opportunity for reading, meditation, a self-Reiki treatment, breathwork, affirmations, and prayer.
Incorporating crystals can enhance the benefits of the steam. The Yoni is governed by the 2nd chakra (sacral chakra), so use citrine, orange calcite, or carnelian stones during your session.
Red jasper, black obsidian, and and garnet are powerful root chakra stones that may also be incorporated for grounding and clearing unwanted energy.
Warnings & Other Important Information
Do not boil a yoni steam during preparation. Steam releases the therapeutic benefits from the herbs, therefore boiling decreases their potency.
