Knowing When It’s Time To Let Go

Knowing When It's Time to Let Go by Dominique D. Wilson

What must you let go of so that you can rise and soar?

There are 3 things that I absolutely love about Fall—cooler weather, the the vibrant energy of women empowering women everywhere I turn, and gentle reminders from nature about the power of letting go!

Because October is National Women’s Small Business Month, I’ve had a great time learning more about powerful women of like mind.

I don’t believe in coincidences because I know from personal experience that your vibe attracts your tribe—it’s the law of attraction.

So, it’s no surprise that today after journaling about letting go, I happened to come across a message that really inspired me by the Chairwoman of the National Women’s Business Council herself, Carla Harris.

In her talk, Carla shares 3 Powerful Questions that you should ask yourself about taking a risk.

Immediately, my awareness was drawn the idea of letting go, be it is a risk that we all face many times throughout our lives.

So, in this post I’ll share those powerful questions followed by a few tips to

Should I Take The Risk? Carla’s 3 Questions To Help Your Decide

1)  Will it give you skills and expertise that you wouldn’t get if you stayed in the same place for the next 12 months?

2)  Will is expose you to people, relationships, and efforts that you wouldn’t get if you stayed in the same place for the next 12 months?

3)  Will it create new branches on your personal decision tree of opportunity—allowing you to do some other things that you would not have been able to do if you stayed in the same place for the next 12 months?

She goes on the say, “If the answer to all 3 is YES, then absolutely take the risk!

Although she was talking about starting something new, it reminded me of the importance of knowing when it’s time to let go.

She highlighted the benefits that we can miss out on when we refuse to let go of what is not longer serving us.

When we cling to the past—the new relationship, better career, better health, more money, better quality of life await in the distance doesn’t have enough space to show up in our life.

Making the decision to let go is taking a risk!

Releasing the things, people, and circumstances that aren’t serving us is essential to our ability to maintain our momentum, happiness, and success.

Will you have questions, uncertainties, and even fear? Yes!

But, you’ll have peace in knowing that you did what was best for you, which is a beautiful act of self-love.

Preparing To Take Inspired Action

I’ve discovered on my journey that life is about expansion, growth, and experience.

I believe that expansion is only possible through self-expression—taking inspired action based on who you are and what you want!

Every time I take action toward my purpose, I am making the conscious choice to let go of what no longer serves me:

…doubt, limiting beliefs, naysayers, negative self-talk, old habits, expired relationships, bad news, and clutter.

How many times have you talked yourself out of an opportunity, even after you’ve already said YES to it?

I’m not judging you, just provoking some thought.

In addition to the 3 questions above, here are my tips to help you prepare mentally before taking inspired action toward your purpose—whether that means letting go of something or saying YES to you!

Tip #1: Ask Powerful Questions

Start asking yourself empowering questions during self inquiry, such as:

What do I want to be known for?

What would I do if I knew I couldn’t fail?

What would my life be like if I chose to believe that anything is possible?

Tip #2: Find Your Tribe

Surround yourself by positive people who will support you in getting to the next level on your journey.

When it comes to letting go of old habits, relationships, possessions, etc.—it’s nice to have a supportive person or community to talk to about your experiences.

Your tribe will cheer you on when you move with purpose, they’ll celebrate your wins with you, and they’ll never tell you that your dream is too big or cast doubt on your ability to achieve your hearts desires.

Tip #3: Do Something Radically Different Each Day

Each day, do something radically different from your normal routine.

This interrupts the habit that your brain has created in a certain area.

You’ll get more comfortable with change, become more flexible, and learn to think quicker on your feet without losing focus of your big goals.

Therefore, when you come to that next fork in the road, you’ll be more confident about choosing your next step because you know that you can handle change gracefully.
