What is Reiki?
The word Reiki means "Universal or Spiritual" (Rei) "Life Force Energy" (Ki).
Reiki is a traditional Japanese method of energy healing, which induces relaxation, reduces stress, and enhances the body's natural ability to heal itself on all levels of being—physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Dr. Mikao Usui founded the Usui system of Reiki (also known as Usui Skiki Ryoho) in the early 20th century.
The word Reiki is a combination of the Japanese words Re "Universal or Spiritual" and Ki "Life Force Energy." Therapy consists of a gently flow of this conscious life force energy (Reiki) is channeled through the therapist to the recipient using light touch or the distance healing method.
Naturopathic Reiki Therapy was founded by Dr. Akua Gray, ND—the International Operating Director for the A Life of Peace Wellness Education Institute, Inc. Naturopathic Reiki is rooted in the Usui system of Reiki, features elements of Kemetic Reiki (Sekhem), and incorporates several other holistic healing modalities gleaned from Dr. Gray's 20+ years as a naturopath, spiritualist, and master teacher.
How Reiki Works
Reiki is not limited by time or distance—it is present everywhere and always. Reiki therapists are trained in the art of channeling this conscious energy through the power of their intention to flow through them, and to the recipient(s) either in-person using light touch, or using the distance method.
Because it is conscious energy (all-knowing), Reiki will flow to where it is most needed at the time of treatment in order to restore the recipient to a balanced state. The therapists main function is to be a clear channel for Reiki to freely flow.
The therapist does not tell Reiki what to do because it is not an extension of human will. Reiki can do no harm, and will only work for those who are receptive to it. Reiki is not a religion, nor is it affiliated with any religion.
Reiki therapy opens the path to wellness by removing energetic debris from the physical and etheric bodies. Reiki promotes physical and emotional pain relief, balanced emotions, immune system strength, decreased stress, reduced tension, and restful sleep. It also enhances stamina, intuition, meditation, spiritual awareness, and self-awareness.
What To Expect During A Reiki Session
You appointment will always begin with a brief check-in to discuss your main concerns and wellness goals. If it's your first appointment, you'll also discuss your medical history based on your completed intake form which is provided by the therapist prior to your appointment.
Reiki begins to flow once an intention is set by your therapist, and is then channeled to you as you relax (fully-clothed) on a comfortable Reiki table or chair.
In-person treatment is given through soft touch "laying on hands" in a series of positions across the body. However, physical touch isn't necessary—Reiki can be channeled to you from any distance.
Sessions include a brief check-in, guided meditation, aura therapy, chakra therapy, and crystal therapy. Affirmations, breath work, sound healing, aromatherapy, and elemental therapy may also be incorporated into a session based on individual needs at the time of treatment.
Most clients report feeling deeply relaxed, and some experience slight tingling, warm sensations as Reiki flows through their body.
Once your session is complete, your therapist will take a few minutes to debrief, discuss the session with you, book your follow-up appointment, and provide any action steps or recommendations.
